April Ross
April Ross has won more than one medal at the Olympics. She is one of a few female beach volleyball players that have achieved this feat. Alix Klineman, playing for the first time at the Tokyo Olympics, will try to earn her third gold medal. Ross also hopes to get her first Olympic medal. At 39, it could be her last opportunity to achieve it. She's certain that the top prizes are within reach. Ross stated to NBC Boston that if they perform at their very best, or play a great game and they are able to play well, the team will be able to win the gold medal. It's also going to be a matter of chance. Ross was born on August 22nd, 1982 at Costa Mesa California. She resided in the area with her family. Ross's athletic endeavors continued at Newport Harbor High School where she participated in several different sports. She competed in basketball and the track as well as her indoor volleyball exploits as a prep athlete. In her final game she stood out. In her college profile, she was an outside hitter, middle blocker, and setter during her volleyball career in high school. Her achievements were rewarded when she was named 1999 Gatorade's National Circle of Champions players of the year. The skills she showed in volleyball also won her an Orange County Athlete of the Years trophy in the year 2000. Ross and Klineman may have started working together in 2017, but Ross was an experienced athlete at the beach prior to when they joined forces. In fact, she's won numerous events, one of which was with the legendary player of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 until 2013. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be a formidable force in the international circuit, winning the 2009 World Championship as a team. They won a Silver Medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. They were knocked out of the gold medal by the legendary team comprising Misty and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). As fate would have it Ross became Walsh Jennings' new partner when May-Treanor retired. The duo won bronze in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a player for the USC Trojans in college after graduating from the high school she attended. Ross's Trojans experience was remarkable. In 2000, as a freshman she fought her way to Pac-10 as well as NCAA The Freshman of the Year accolades. She also was an All-American. She also helped her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. Her personal tragedy was a crushing loss in her sophomore season and yet she went on to repeat as an All-American. In her last two years of participation in the Trojans program, she coached the Trojans to winning a national title every year. As an individual, she cemented her place as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the top female college volleyball players across the United States. Ross was who was a USC international relations student, was a volleyball star. Margie Ross wasn't able to see her daughter's rise to beach volleyball fame. Ross's mother passed away from cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross had just become an undergraduate student in the second year at USC. Ross holds her mother very dearly. Margie has always been a source of inspiration for her both in and out of the water.
